Overview
Kodak has a robust but sometimes complicated cloud printing service offering. Their global customer base has many options they can choose from when it comes to printer type, paper type, and printing output. Kodak's cloud printing services help streamline the printing process for many customers, but because of its complexity, sales tools that help customers understand the basics are helpful to get started.
Approach
With a visual tone that was inspired by Kodak's infographic brochure design, we created an interactive cloud printing world called "smart factory". The interactive world contains 4 separate islands, the pillars of their cloud printing solution and within them, 10 hot spots that outline the key value proposition. Users are invited to explore the world and learn more about the service offering at their own pace.
A unique challenge for use was the incorporation of character animation into a webGL experience. Each set of characters is animated to a unique loop, which is activated upon button click.
It was important that the smart factory didn't look like a lifeless server farm somewhere and characters were a key part of telling that story. To make the characters look and move properly, a lot of optimization was needed to keep file sizes manageable including texture baking and character rig optimization.

We were careful to create natural cut points so that the looping would feel smooth.
